Bengaluru Police arrested the software engineer for allegedly attempting to murder a motorist after a quarrel at a traffic signal in north Bengaluru. The incident took place on October 26 and was initially registered as a hit-and-run accident.
According to police, the altercation began when the victim honked at the accused, Sukruth Keshav, for blocking a free left near Ramaiah College. Angered, Sukruth allegedly chased the vehicle and intentionally rammed his Tata Curve into it.
Though the case was first filed as an accident by the traffic police, inconsistencies in statements prompted further inquiry.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Akshay, said that CCTV footage later confirmed the collision was deliberate.
“Once the footage was obtained, it became clear that the collision was not accidental but deliberate. The case was transferred from the Traffic Police Station to the Sadashivanagar Law and Order Police Station. Based on the complaint and video evidence, police confirmed it was a case of attempt to murder,” he said.
Police traced the accused using vehicle details and arrested him. During questioning, Sukruth claimed he was only trying to “scare” the other motorist, insisting he did not intend to cause harm. However, investigators concluded it was a clear instance of violent and negligent behaviour on the road.
During questioning, the accused said, “Near Ramaiah College, there was no free left, but he was honking at me. I got irritated, allowed him to overtake, and tried to scare him — but ended up hitting the other vehicle.”
He claimed it wasn’t intentional, but investigators found it to be a clear case of violent and negligent behaviour on the road, not a mere accident.
The police have seized the vehicle and further investigation is underway.
