A day after the RJD suffered a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Lalu Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape by announcing her departure from politics and severing ties with her family.
In a cryptic post on X, she wrote, “I am quitting politics and severing ties with my family. This is exactly what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez told me. I am taking full responsibility.”
The post immediately grabbed attention, not only for Rohini’s dramatic exit but also for the mention of two names: Sanjay Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP and an aide of Tejashwi Yadav, and a little-known figure, Rameez.
ROHINI SPEAKS OUT AT PATNA AIRPORT
Rohini, who reached Patna airport, made her feelings clear in a candid statement to reporters, “I don’t have a family. You should go and ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez. They are the ones who threw me out of the family. They do not want to take any responsibility. The whole nation is asking why the party failed like this. When you take the names of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are thrown out of the house, disgraced and abused.”
WHO IS RAMEEZ?
Rameez Nemat, is the son-in-law of former Samajwadi Party strongman and ex-MP Rizwan Zaheer, who belongs to the Nepal-bordering district of Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Niyamatullah Khan.
Rameez faces serious allegations. He is accused in the murder of Firoz “Pappu”, the former chairman of the Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat in Balrampur, who was shot dead on January 4, 2022.
Reports claim that Rizwan Zaheer wanted his daughter, Zeba Rizwan, to become the chairperson of Tulsipur, but Firoz Ahmed and Pappu allegedly helped their own candidate win the seat. This political rivalry is believed to have triggered the murder conspiracy.
Rizwan Zaheer is currently lodged in Lalitpur jail in connection with the same case. Police had arrested Zeba Rizwan and her husband, Rameez Nemat, along with Zaheer, and sent them to jail. While Rameez and Zeba are now out on bail, Zaheer remains behind bars.
There are reportedly 12 criminal cases, including charges of murder and under the Gangster Act, registered against Rameez in Tulsipur (Balrampur) and in Kokhraj police station of Kaushambi district.
His name had also surfaced during a major disturbance in Balrampur in 2021. Currently out on bail, he is said to be trying to build influence in Balrampur’s political landscape using his connection to the SP’s former strongman MP.
Furthermore, Rameez is believed to share a cricketing connection with Tejashwi Yadav, one of the reasons his proximity to senior RJD circles has drawn attention.
POLITICAL FALLOUT IN BIHAR
Meanwhile, Rohini’s announcement comes in the wake of the RJD’s electoral setback. The party’s tally fell dramatically from 75 seats in 2020 to just 25, while the NDA crossed the 200-seat mark, securing 202 seats in total.
With the JD(U) stepping up its efforts to form the government, senior leaders Lallan Singh and Sanjay Jha held high-level meetings with the BJP leadership in Delhi to push the process forward. Deliberations are also underway in Patna.
