Battle of Baghpat 2.0: Vande Bharat staff clash with dustbins, belts in Delhi

A violent clash between catering staff of the Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express at Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station has gone viral, drawing comparisons to the infamous “Battle of Baghpat” street fight in Uttar Pradesh that became a meme sensation in 2021.

The 30-second clip, which circulated widely on social media platform X, shows at least half a dozen men hurling dustbins, swinging belts, and trading blows on Platform No. 7, while others try unsuccessfully to break up the fight.

The video was also posted by X user The Skin Doctor, who wrote, “Vande Bharat catering staff going full ‘Battle of Baghpat’ mode on each other.”

According to Delhi Police, the clash began as a verbal disagreement between pantry assistants over placing a water box inside the train.

The police said, “Yesterday an incident of fight took place between pantry assistants in Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express. The issue was regarding placing a water box inside the train. A verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation. However, no formal complaint was made by any party, and the matter was mutually resolved in writing.”

It also said that the video came to the police’s attention through social media. “As the incident clearly came under the provisions of the Indian Railways Act, a case vide FIR No. 74/25, U/s 194(2) BNS, dated 17/10/25, has been registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station Police,” the officer said.

In response to the viral video, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) said the matter has been viewed very seriously and four staff have been derostered.

“Four staff of the service provider have been detained by RPF authorities for further investigation. All four staff’s ID cards have been deactivated and they have been derostered. A show-cause notice for termination of contract has been issued to the service provider, and a hefty penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed,” IRCTC said in an X post.
