He can't even hold a bat: Rahul Gandhi questions Jay Shah's ICC chairmanship

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday took a dig at Home Minister Amit Shah’s son and ICC chairman Jay Shah, asserting that he did not know how to hold a cricket bat and yet he was running the sport.

Addressing an election rally in Bhagalpur ahead of the next phase of polling on November 11, the Congress MP said, “Only if you are the son of Adani, Ambani or Amit Shah, can you dream big. Amit Shah’s son (Jay Shah) doesn’t even know how to hold a bat, forget about scoring a run. But he is the chief of cricket. He controls everything in cricket. Why does he control everything? Because of money”.

Jay Shah, since December 2024, has been the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket’s global governing body.

Previously he held the office of the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the premier body governing cricketing affairs in Asia. He was in office from 2021 to 2024.

Before that, he served as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2021 after he completed his tenure with the Gujarat Cricket Association.

Continuing his tirade against the NDA, Rahul Gandhi said that the Modi government brought the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to destroy farmers, labourers and small-scale traders.

He alleged that the NDA government usurps the poor’s land and gifts it to industrialists like the Ambanis and the Adanis.

A total of 122 of the 243 seats of the Bihar Legislative Assembly will vote in the second phase on November 11. The results will be announced on November 14.
